He was selected by the SENS Research Foundation for a summer research internship at the Sanford Burnham Medical Research Institute, now the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute. As an intern in the lab of Dr. Evan Snyder at the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine, the author studied the mechanistic link between alpha-synuclein and leucine-rich repeating kinase 2 (LRRK2) in neuronal autophagy in Parkinson's Disease. He used tissue culture, fluorescent microscopy, and quantitative Western blots to compare key biomarkers between Parkinson's patient induced pluripotent stem cell-derived neurons and control stem cell-derived neurons. The author presented his work on the cellular dynamics of Parkinson's Disease and supported a therapeutic approach at poster sessions during the SRF Rejuvenation Biotechnology Conference. |
